Back To Nature In A Box

Camping. A strange concept. It’s like going on a prehistoric holiday with a modern twist. So what makes the prospect so attractive, why do so many people flock to campsites all over Britain and the world each year?
I guess it must be our million year old instincts to get back to nature. But lots of people don’t want to get ‘back to nature’ in a simple tent! So this is where our modern ‘necessities’ come in to the mix: heated beds, electric kettles for making tea, toasters… These things just improve the experience. Who wants to sit for half an hour waiting for toast to cook under a grill?
There are things I love and hate about camping. I love meeting new dogs (or barking at them), the new places and the new walks. I love the sausages at breakfast, the occasional chip from dinner, if the family is having fish and chips. I love the traveling too! This may come as I surprise, but I love sitting in that shiny moving box, sprawled across the back seats, with my head resting on one of the teenage family members and my feet on the other. It’s like a moving sofa!
I dislike camping greatly when it’s cold, windy or raining. I hate that weather normally, but it’s even worse when you’re not in a warm house with central heating or big sofas… I don’t like it when members of the family leave the dwelling to, according to my family, go to the showers or the shop. However, this is one cloud that does have a silver lining. If I’m good enough I get biccies or if I need distracting (I admit, I do whimper a lot) I also get fed nice stuff like biccies. It’s also very irritating and inconvenient that there isn’t a proper couch for me to curl up on and watch the world go by. And bark. Quite a lot.
Anyway.
My family has this rather strange looking temporary dwelling. It’s half caravan and half tent and is called a folding camper. Apparently. My mum says that it’s a good compromise. Believe me, they’ve tried camping in a tent, and every time they went it rained. So they bought this thing. It’s small but cosy.
So what do you guys think of camping? Got any funny experiences? Questions? Please comment below, it will really make my day! And please ‘like’ it if you think this post is worthy!!
Have a nice day!

Ear flapping, tides, seaweed and pawprints. Who doesn’t love it?

I love to be beside the sea. I love to feel the wind in my fur, making my ears flap in such a way my family call ‘the height of cuteness’. I love to watch the tide roll in and out; a never-ending expanse of water. I love the smells: the seaweed, the salty scent of the water, the lingering smells of dogs from days before. I love seeing pawprints in the sand. Slowly disappearing. Who doesn’t? I love all of that. However, one thing I don’t enjoy… is swimming. Getting wet. Getting cold. I am just not that kind of dog. I’ve never enjoyed it, to be honest. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy paddling, but when the water gets up to my ankles… oh no. I don’t see the appeal. Seaweed wrapping round your legs, paws stepping on all manner of slimy things under the surface. My family seem to enjoy splashing about in the sea and often when they are on a beach, they can spend hours running through shallow water, getting soaked to the skin despite the fact that the water isn’t deep at all. They love looking in rockpools, which I can agree with, it’s always interesting peering at the creatures living there. They love sitting on the huge rocks watching the water swirl beneath them, as well as climbing the rocks, racing to get to the other side!I was on a large beach the other day. It was sandy and there were plenty of interesting scents to sniff at. There was space to run after my tennis ball and warm pools of water to splash in if and when I felt like it. There were other dogs too, which is always nice, meeting new potential companions.

My favourite time of day to be by the sea is on summer evenings, when it is still light, warm and quiet. I just enjoy the peaceful nature of being on a secluded beach; just you, your tennis ball, the sand and the waves. Do you feel like this?

Watching the sun go down over the water, or sometimes watching the sun rise in the mornings.

Just sitting, my ears flapping gently in the breeze…

I wish I was there right now. Where would you guys like to be, if you had the chance to be anyway at this minute, instead of reading this (even though you’re hopefully enjoying it!!), where would you like to be? Please comment below or like this post, I’d be so grateful!

Thanks, enjoy your day!

Tbh, IDGAW

Now, we’ve all thought at some point IDGAW. Picture the scene. You’re down at the local park, carrying your tennis ball cheerfully when you stop to say hello to your friend. You’re talking about that stick you saw that dog with the other day. The really huge one! And then that poodle trots up to you and starts bragging about her fancy holiday and the humongous pool her owners’ are getting and how she was getting a new diamond collar for her birthday. And you’re standing there thinking IDGAW.

Can you guys relate to this?

Post your experiences in the comments below! We can enjoy reading about everyone elses IDGAW moments, and remember it’s not just ourselfs who sometimes want people to STWU!

Soon I will be posting about dawg slang, which I hope you guys will find interesting! Have fun!

P.s. For those of you who aren’t sure what I’m going on about, IDGAW is basically I don’t give a woof. It’s when you really don’t care about someone’s new collar. Basically.

Dog days… Years.

So as some of you may already know, we have different time scales to you humans. And the purpose of this post is not to infuriate you with the inpracticality of these strange time scales, but to help you understand them! It’s fun too! So, many people believe that dog years are in a ratio of 1 human year to 7 dog years, however, this is not always true. Our time scales can be very irregular, some being a difference of a mere few months, to being over 20 years difference. I hope this is making sense to you. This can be confusing so if you have any questions leave them in the comments and I will try and answer you!

According to http://www.onlineconversion.com/dogyears.htm there are 10.5 dog years for ever human year. This is only for the first two years though. Then it is around 4 dog years per every human year after that however this can vary.

It is very difficult to say exactly the ratio of dog:human years because they are so irregular but I hope this has helped slightly! Here are some links to other sites that you can visit too:

www.onlineconversion.com/dogyears.htm – this has a fun online dog years calculation, where you can see how old you are in dog years and vice versa!

www.dogyears.com/ – this site has a chart showing you the comparisons.

If you find any other good sites on the subject, please feel free to tell me about them! Leave a comment below and have fun!

The Joys of a Tennis Ball

Every dog loves a tennis ball. Well perhaps not every dog, but a lot do. And I am one of them! I find tennis balls absolutely delightful! Bouncy, chewable, rip-apart-able, throwable, shreddable, fuzzy… what’s not to love! That moment as the ball is speeding across the sky and you are suddenly running as fast as your legs can carry you, faster and faster until you are directly undernearth it. Time seems to stop as the ball spins in mid air. You leap up into the blue expanse that is the sky and catch it in your mouth, landing perfectly in the long grass. The applause from the family, from the children playing in the nearby park, from the elderly folk sitting on a bench with their sleeping dogs by their sides. Giving a yip of thanks, you settle down to chew it before it is thrown again.

That is the life. I have loved tennis balls ever since I was rehomed. I admit, I was slightly confused as to what this strange, round thing was at first, but I knew as soon as I saw it that this toy had endless possibilities.

However, why do all tennis balls have to look the same? How can you tell which one is yours from a distance? How do you avoid embarrasment of telling another dog that the tennis ball they are chewing is yours, not theirs when afterwards, you find your tennis ball is on the other side of the field? But you see, humans and fellow dogs, you have to take that risk sometimes.

Oh! I can hear the squeak of the tennis ball… oh oh oh!! It’s time for my walk! It’s time for me to once again experience the excitement, the thrill, the joy of a tennis ball! See you later!

Summer has arrived!

Ah… Summer has finally arrived! The rain drops have been replaced by sunshine and a cool breeze that ruffles my fur. I can finally lie on the patio, stretched out on the tiles, and soak up the sunshine which I haven’t felt for such a long time. Picture this:
There I am, in the cool shade of one of those big green plants the humans keep in their garden, the sun shining its rays beside me. I’m crunching a carrot, a really big one, crunchy and delectable. How I love carrots! Or maybe I’ll be eating a banana… A whole one, all to myself!! Yes…. Om nom nom…
Sorry, got a bit carried away there!
Aren’t you glad the summers come? The flowers will bloom in all their beautiful colours, ready for me to sniff and leave messages on, the trees will be bursting with bright green leaves, just waiting for us dawgs to use as a message board, the grass with be green and splendid, perfect for speeding through, after a tennis ball or squirrel. You can get away with sleeping on the couch if all the humans are outside! And then comes the BBQ, sizzling away producing smells to die for, sausages, burgers, chicken drumsticks, kebabs! Oh the delights!
Ah, well I must draw myself away from this now, I will carry thoughts of these delicious treats away on my walk in the sunshine!
